"Receiving the Illinois Director Credential has helped me
understand just how important all the work we do is to our profession."
|
Doris was awarded the Level II Illinois Director Credential in October 2001. She
has been the Director of the Concordia University Early Childhood Ed. Center
for 2 years.
Doris first entered the early childhood field because she enjoyed being with
young children and says that "their thirst for knowledge was catching and I
felt that moving into administration gave me the opportunity to learn as well."
Not only has Doris learned a lot in her years in the field, but has also helped
others learn as well - she has been teaching in the field for 15 years. Doris
says that her current program is expanding and her goal is to support her staff
with the transition and to expand the quality of education.
One area in which Doris finds her work particularly rewarding is in helping
children to understand anger and how to be more empathetic toward others. She
has spoken at conferences on this topic, including "Media Violence and Young
Children", and "Developing a Peace Curriculum in the Early Childhood
Classroom".
In her spare time, Doris enjoys quilting and taking voice lessons. She lives on
the north side of Chicago with her husband, who is also a teacher, and 2 cats.
Doris and her husband also have two children in their early twenties and are
enjoying their "empty nest" existence!
