"The Illinois Director Credential was a measuring tool for me. It gave me direction for improvement."

Elaine was awarded the Level I Illinois Director Credential in November 2002. She has been the Director of Faith Lutheran Child Care for 6 years.

As a married mother of two children at the time, when Elaine decided to go to college she wasn't exactly sure of what she was interested in studying, but decided to look into teaching. Because she had young children, she could only attend classes at night, and only take one or two classes each semester. This fact made getting a two-year Associate degree appeal to Elaine. During her studies, she found that she especially enjoyed her early childhood classes and so her career path began.

Elaine has been working in the early care and education field for twenty-two years; as a nursery school teacher, a day care teacher, and for the last six years as a director of a program.

When she first heard of the Illinois Director Credential, Elaine decided that it was important to bring herself to that standard of professionalism. She says the credential "...was a measuring tool for me. It gave me direction for improvement." Elaine also credits the Professional Growth Advisor she was assigned as helping her to obtain her goal.

Elaine has three children and three grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, reading, traveling and gardening.
