Level III Director

Executive Director
Early Discoveries: Abbott’s Center for Child Development
Abbott Park, IL

6 years at Abbott's

“Creating the IDC portfolio and thereby reflecting on the skills and knowledge base I’ve acquired over a twenty year period in my early childhood career was an entirely enriching and affirming experience for me. I realized in a very concrete way how diverse my skill set is, how far-reaching the field of early childhood education is, how critical my work is to families, children and staff, and how competence grows deeply over time. I also enjoyed seeing how the tangible connection between academic preparation, practical experience, and making professional contributions to the field all add up to high quality services for today’s young people.”

Kendra earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Illinois and has been serving families with young children for 20 years. She has taught all of the early childhood age groups, taught child development at the college level, and supervised the operations of 12 corporate-sponsored child care centers with Bright Horizons Family Solutions. Kendra is an award-winning Child Care Center Administrator with expertise in overall center operations, curricular leadership, and NAEYC Accreditation. She is a frequent presenter at child development conferences and has worked for Bright Horizons Family Solutions for 15 years. Currently, she is the Executive Director of Early Discoveries: Abbott’s Center for Child Development, a NAEYC accredited, work-site center serving over 700 children. The center is managed by Bright Horizons Family Solutions. In 2003 she was nationally recognized by the Work and Families Institute for leadership in organizational change with a “Moving into the Future Award.” Kendra lives with her 8-year-old son in Gurnee, IL.
