Level I Director

Director
Proctor Hospital Employee Child Care Center
Peoria, IL

23 years at the Center
3 years as Director

"When Bonnie retired she told me that I needed to work on my Illinois Director Credential Certificate. In the 20 years I worked with Bonnie, she never led me a stray; therefore, I knew if she told me I needed to do it, then I needed to do it. My parents were very supportive and assuring during the process. I feel by receiving the Illinois Director Credential, it has shown me areas that I am weak in and need improvement. I feel that any education that you can receive is an asset to the person and the program."

Hello, I am Valerie Sadler. I have always wanted to work with young children as long as I can remember. I graduated from Southwest Baptist University in May of 1982. After not being able to find a job, I decided to attend Eureka College. I graduated in 1984 with a degree in Elementary Education. I started working weekends at Proctor Employee Child Care Center in October 1982. After finishing my work at Eureka, Bonnie offered me more hours at the center. When there was a full-time position in the infant room, I was offered the position. The infant room was a great room to work in. The parents and children were wonderful. Later, Bonnie gave me the infant/toddler coordinator position.

I still worked in the infant area, but met with teachers to talk about concerns, suggestions, and ideas. Later, I was named the assistant director. After Bonnie retired in February 2002, I was named the new director. I have had the opportunity of doing many different things at Proctor’s Child Care Center and have enjoyed them all. The parents, children, and my staff are great. We all work together for the children. I also teach infant/toddler development at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. In this class, I try and give students an understanding of how important it is to have quality child care givers for infants and toddlers.

I have a wonderful mother and father that are always in whatever I attempt to do. I have no children, but don’t tell my two cats that because they think they are. I have two nephews and one niece that I think the world of. I enjoy working, spending time with my family, and going to church.
