Gateways Infant Toddler Credential (ITC)

The Infant Toddler Credential (ITC), awarded through Gateways to Opportunity and recognized by the state of Illinois, validates the specialized knowledge, skills, and experience needed to work with children birth to age 3. Practitioners applying for the ITC must also meet the requirements to attain the Gateways ECE Credential. (Please note: Certain degrees and/or statewide certifications may provide the foundation to earn the ITC.)

The ITC was developed to:

  • Recognize the specialized knowledge of those working with children birth to age 3.
  • Enhance the quality of services.
  • Increase positive outcomes for infants and toddlers.
  • Acknowledge the dedication of those who pursue the credential.
  • Advance the availability of infant toddler coursework and training.

The Infant Toddler Credential is awarded to practitioners who successfully demonstrate competency in the component areas below as stated in the framework.

  1. Meets Gateways ECE Credential component requirements
  2. Education and Training in Infant Toddler Care and Education
  3. Work and Practical Experience in Infant Toddler Care and Education
